June 12th, 2009 by edit1media

We could use a hand this summer!! We are looking for someone who has a great mix of creativity, curiosity, enthusiasm and drive to assist us at weddings in the greater Seattle area. The main job will be to make lenses and other gear immediately accessible to Chris or myself, run tapes/CF cards back and forth during Same Day Edits, occasional minor camera operation, assist with capturing and organizing footage for Same Day Edits. This is an ideal position for a film or photography student or even a bride who LOVES weddings and our work and just wants to try something different.

The learning opportunities are GREAT for the right candidate. Here are some more details:

– You will need to work 8-10 hours per day on most Saturdays this summer/early fall.
– It is important to be a punctual and organized person.
– Must be VERY dependable and reliable.
– Must be a “people person” - outgoing with great energy with the ability to know when to tone it down.
– You need to be fast on your feet and be able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds.
– Be eager to learn and not be afraid to ask questions.

Please email a cover letter telling us why you are the *perfect* assistant along with a resume and list of references to info at edit1media dot com.

Super 8mm Wedding Film - West Palm Beach, Florida

June 10th, 2009 by edit1media

I just got back some Super 8mm movie film and was so excited to see what we got on it! The fun and mysterious thing about shooting on motion picture film is that you really have no idea how it will turn out until you get it back from development. But the rewards can be huge! It is such a completely different feel than our usual High Definition wedding videos….it’s shaky and grainy but the colors are gorgeous and there is just a nostalgic, vintage — comfortable — feel to it.

This particular wedding was in West Palm Beach, Florida and since we were heading out that way, Chris and I decided to take a short 4-day cruise to the Bahamas prior to Dalia & Mitchell’s wedding. Motion picture film is not supposed to go through xray machines and I had no problem at SeaTac having a hand check. It was actually quite entertaining to chat with the TSA guy about how he grew up shooting Super8 and he was curious what we were doing with it. But when we got to the cruise ship, it was a whole different ball game! The guy there forced us to xray the film even though there were “DO NOT XRAY” stickers all over it! Then on the way home it got xrayed again at the airport in Miami! I was really stressed that the film would be ruined. So I wound up waiting a long time while until I finished shooting some rolls at a few other weddings before sending it in for processing.

Unfortunately, some of the film was damaged from the xray exposure (and probably some user error too!) but I had enough to put together a cute littler opener for Dalia & Mitchell. I love it because it shows just enough of a glimpse in to their day that you want to see more…and yet it doesn’t ruin the surprise of the rest of their video. Yes, that’s me getting all artsy on you! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this and if you like it enough to add in a little bit of  Super8 to your wedding video, send me an email!

A Story Told by Loved Ones - Mica & Matt

April 14th, 2009 by edit1media

When we walked into the W Hotel to film Mica & Matt’s wedding, you could instantly feel how much their friends and family loved them. This video is such great evidence of that and I love how it all flows together. Mica was such a chic bride and when Matt looks at her you can just feel how much he loves and adores her. They have such great synergy. I hope you enjoy this video as much as we enjoyed shooting and editing it!

Marni & Doug - A Perfect Seattle Wedding

April 5th, 2009 by edit1media

Chris and I did this gorgeous Same Day Edit for Marni & Doug’s wedding at the Harbor Club in downtown Seattle yesterday. Unfortunately we had some technical difficulties at the time since we were shooting and editing on-site in High Definition, so we had to use an alternative method for playing back the video. That lead to another problem, but this has a happy ending since Michael Benson from the aptly named Michael Benson Band came to our rescue when he had the right adapter that we needed! The guests didn’t even notice the behind the scenes technical drama and there was a standing ovation with plenty of tears in people’s eyes when the video was completed!

We will be adding in some reception footage in the next few days and updating this post with the new video, so be sure to check back again!

Mike Rohrbach was the officiant today and we have a long history with him from way back when Matthew (our second son) was finishing up his second battle with cancer when he was 3-1/2 years old. Such a small world! Mike did an incredible job and I highly recommend him as a wedding officiant! He is a great man with a big heart and a great smile!

We haven’t worked with photographer John Nolte since 2002!! Where does the time go?? Anyway, it was fun to catch up with him and his wife/photography partner, Barb. They are a super nice couple! Hopefully we’ll have the pleasure of working with them more often in the future.

To Marni & Doug — thank you for asking us to capture your wedding day! We had a great time with you and your wedding party and I know you will treasure your video for many years to come!

This article is pretty basic, but sometimes people forget to ask basic questions when hiring a videographer and wind up with an end product that isn’t what they expected.

Surfin’ USA

April 2nd, 2009 by edit1media

Well, we are back from shooting Bessie & Alvin’s wedding in Honolulu and taking some time off with the family to relax. We have never spent much time together as a family in Hawaii (which is where I grew up) so it was a great experience to take all three boys and spend time with my parents and siblings and Chris’ Dad (they all still live there). We did tons of boogie boarding and beach bumming and now we are refreshed and ready to take on the world again!

The last few months have been a complete blur with a ton of travel for corporate shoots (7 cities in 3 weeks during February!!) with every spare second dedicated to editing weddings and running the business. I’m proud to say we are NOT experiencing the recession at all and in fact are thriving and may need to hire more staff!

Anyway, the real reason for this post is to show off Chris’ new hobby.

chrissurfing

I wish I could say we videotaped a lot of stuff, but the truth is we didn’t. We were just having fun being together. Maybe on our next trip we’ll be better about that! Anyway, got to get back to editing….I have TONS of stuff to work on and a wedding this weekend!

By the way, if you want to follow us on Twitter, we are @edit1media or look us up on Facebook!

Bessie & Alvin - Kahala Hotel

March 29th, 2009 by edit1media

Yesterday the Edit 1 Media team (Chris, Andrew and yours truly) had the honor of filming Bessie & Alvin’s wedding at the Kahala Hotel which is right outside of Honolulu. Alvin’s family is from Kailua but he and Bessie live in Seattle, so it was a semi destination wedding and the best of both worlds to have us filming their day.

The day was absolutely gorgeous…sunny and mild with some wonderful trade winds. Bessie looked amazing and was just so much fun to be around all day! Alvin was cool, calm and collected and seemed to be walking on air. It was a very busy day with preparations, Chinese games and a First Glance, a Chinese Tea Ceremony and then of course the Ceremony and Reception. We did a Same Day Edit using the same song that played during their wedding procession so it’s obviously a song that means a lot to them!

I have to say that the funniest part of the day is a toss-up between the “Rock the Reception” first dance and the crazy pictures people were taking in the Photo Booth. Bessie and her Maid of Honor took some super silly photos with Andrew that I’m sure won’t ever see the light of day. Thanks for making us take those, Bessie!
